Introduction to Landscape Design.

General Info.

To equip students with the knowledge necessary to gain a basic understanding of the requirements of landscape design. To provide a basic understanding of how to design a garden. This course is suitable for the novice, hobbyist, keen gardener, and the totally new gardener. We recommend it as a good starting point to learn new skills to improve your own garden.
Our lecturers are all qualified landscape designers who still operate landscape design businesses and have years of practical insight to impart to students. This information is not available on the web.
With years of knowledge behind them our lecturers will ensure that you do not make costly mistakes, will give words of wisdom on overcoming the different areas in the garden and of course make it fun.

What to expect from each course?

- Understanding the different styles of landscape design.
- The importance of design goals.
- Taking inventory of the garden.
- The important design principles, the basic building blocks of design.
- The design process. Where to start a design.
- Analysis a garden. What is existing in the garden. What factors on the site will have an impact on the design.
- Choose a style for a garden room.
- The secret of a planting design.
- Using hard landscaping elements in a design. e.g. paving, trellis, pebbles, arches, statues etc.
- The use of water in the garden.
- Developing a Concept plan for the garden. Combining all your ideas for the space to see if it will work.
- Assessment - A successful assessment will result in a certificate being issued.
